Madurai Medical College was founded in 1954 and is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. The college offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma as well as certificate courses.

Students should have passed HSC (10+2) examination in order to apply for MBBS/ B.Sc./ B.Pharm first year program.
NEET UG entrance examination scores are valid for admission to MBBS course.
Candidates seeking admission to B.Sc./Diploma program should have passed 10+2 with 50% marks with English as subject.
For admission to postgraduate MD/ MS program, candidate must have passed MBBS/ BDS Degree.
Applicants should have appeared in PIMS AICET-PG in order to apply for MD/ MS course with mandatory internship of one-year.

Madurai Medical College offers admission to the 5-year MBBS Program on the basis of scores obtained in the entrance examination as well as a qualifying degree. The basic eligibility criteria to apply for the course is 10+2 with PCB as compulsory subjects with 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks for SC/ST candidates).

Applicants who have passed PG Diploma in Medicine are also eligible to apply for MD/MS programs.

Among these colleges, Madras Medical College is the best option. It is one of the oldest medical colleges in India. It offers huge case studies due to the patient load. The teaching faculties are great. The infrastructure of the institute is quite good. As the institute is located in the capital, it is more or less like a private medical college.

After MMC, the 2nd best option is Stanley Medical College followed by Madurai and Thanjavur. You will get to witness huge case studies at Thanjavur as it serves as a single medical college for three nearby districts.
