Wilson College is a private institute of higher education in Mumbai, Maharashtra, established in 1832. Wilson College is an autonomous institution that is affiliated with Mumbai University. The NAAC accredits the college with an ‘A’ grade. Wilson College offers Undergraduate programs including MSc, MCom, and MA and doctoral programs. At Wilson College, one has a choice of either going in for the aided or the unaided programs as per one’s interest level and needs:

  • Aided programs are the programs which the government finances with the aim of offering scholars an affordable fees structure so that everyone can get the equal chance of attaining education.
  • Unaided programs are those that are not subsidized by the government and it provide students the flexibility in curriculum design and implementation. The tuition fee for these programs are relatively high; however, it give access to modern facilities and industry-relevant curricula, and provide students the opportunities for internships, collaborative projects, and research facilities.

Wilson College admissions are done as per the guidelines laid down by Mumbai University. Admission to UG courses such as BA, B.Sc, BAF, BAMMC, B.Com, and B.Voc is based on merit (marks secured in the HSC or 12th examination). For BMS admissions, candidates need to appear for the Common Entrance Test (CET) By State Cell Maharashtra. The college conducts admission to PG courses based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination for inhouse students and conducts an entrance test for candidates passing out from other than Maharashtra state. The step-by-step process for Wilson College admissions is as follows:

Step 1: Register Online and Complete the Application

Students seeking admission to the Degree College must fill the pre-admisison enrolment form of the Mumbai University admission portal and then the online application form for admission on the Wilson College official website (wilsoncollege.edu) once the HSC/12th Board exam result is out and University of Mumbai declares the schedule of admission. The completed application form has to be submitted along with all required relevant documents online. 

Step 2: Merit List Announcement

After the registration process is complete, the college will release merit lists for shortlisted candidates for admission. The college usually releases 3 merit lists on its official website for each program to fill the seats. If seats remain vacant, the college will conduct spot admissions.

Step 3: Verification of Document & final admission

Candidates selected in the merit list are required to report to college for document verification. Once the verification is done, candidates will be offered admission after paying the required admission fee.

For pursuing a BAF degree, K.P.B Hinduja College will be better. Most of the afculties are helpful and cooperative. It also organizes many industrial visits. You will get the required exposure. 

Wilson College on the other hand doesn’t offer a BAF degree. It is well known for its BMS degree.

Some of my friends attended Wilson College. According to them, here are some of the reasons to choose this college. 

  • The beach is right opposite the campus. It is the best place to hangout with friends or go on a walk. At least once in a semester, the teachers take a class out at the beach.
  • It is a heritage building and is known for its stunning architecture. The classrooms are learge and well-ventilated.
  • There is a gymkhana where you can play cricket and football. Sports day also takes place there.
  • There is a two level auditorium. The festivals takes place there.
  • The institute has a great library with decent collection.

I know students from non-mathematical backgrounds who are pursuing their BMS from Wilson. There are even students from Arts background.
