The scope and subject range of a sociology course is one of the rarest among undergraduate courses. With its huge emphasis on society and social structure, this course fits in perfectly with the needs of modern society.

There are many Colleges and Universities in India which offer an Undergraduate degree in Sociology. Some of the top colleges for BA in Sociology are:
There are universities which offer two kind of undergraduate courses in Sociology. These are a BA Honors in Sociology and BA Program or BA Pass in Sociology. There is no substantial difference between the two courses. The core courses and electives generally remain the same. The only difference is that in an Honors course, a student has an option to specialize in one or more subject related to sociology.
So while a BA Program or BA Pass in Sociology student has to study all the general subjects of Sociology, a BA Honors in Sociology student has in-depth knowledge of the honors paper of their choice.
A lot of students may choose to pursue further academics after BA Sociology. For such students there is no dearth of options. The first and most obvious option is a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from any reputed University offering Postgraduate courses in India. Students looking for a professional edge can also pursue an MBA in Human Resource Management or an MBA in Marketing.
Another good option for BA Sociology graduates is an MA in Social Work which is offered at institutes such as Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. A sizeable portion of students also opt for an MA in International Relations or an MA in Gender Studies available at universities such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and Ambedkar University, Delhi.
Aspirants seeking admission into this course should have passed 10+2 from a recognised board.
I would advise you to attend SD College. Both colleges are excellent; however, there are a few factors that give SD the upper hand over DAV.
Aside from these fundamentals, they’re both just college. Enroll in any of them; after the first semester, you’ll be skipping classes anyhow.
DAV College Chandigarh has a huge campus. It includes a playground and 3-4 little gardens. The college is situated at the center of the city and everything is nearby. You can get all the basic amenities on campus as well. There are two canteens, two Nescafes, a juice center, a stationery shop, a print shop, a salon, and laundry.
The faculties are well-experienced. Some of the faculty members are quite friendly and cooperative. The college has a three-story library. It has a good collection of books.
DAV College has many clubs and societies like Literary society, Economic Society, NSS, etc. The college organizes events like Karvaan, and Star nights annually.
Election times are the worst. There are many fights and unnecessary chaos on campus. The college isn’t strict regarding its attendance rule and you can get away with not attending classes. Faculties sometimes don’t attend the classes and as a result, the students suffer. These are some of the disadvantages that you may have to face on campus.
Among DAVC and SD College, the latter is far better. The following are the reasons.
Overall, SD College is better for admission between the given choices.
It is dependent on the course you wish to enroll in. Some courses are quite popular at Chandigarh University, whereas others are popular at DAV College.
If you are looking for better infrastructure and placements, Chandigarh University should be preferred over DAV. It has been awarded an A+ grade by NAAC and is the only state-private university to be accredited by NAAC.
The curriculum followed at CU is industry-oriented and based on market standards. The level of exposure you will receive here is exceptional with numerous opportunities. Apart from this, Chandigarh University has tie-ups with international institutions.
The university has recorded excellent placement records with participating companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, IBM, Walt Disney, Oracle, and many more.
Yes, you can migrate from DAV College Chandigarh to PU main campus in your 2nd year of BA
You just need to know about the requirements for doing so. These could include: marks required or seats vacancy, etc.
The students involved in the youth elections will be able to guide you. Try getting a hold of a person who is a party member. He may be able to get you in, by admission or by referral.
Also note that there could be a slight chance that in PU, the reference required has to be powerful or influential.
Panjab University’s main campus only offers B.Sc(Hons). Admission is through PU-CET. The UG seats are also limited. For admission, you can fill the form online, by visiting the admission portal of the university.
DAV College is affiliated with Panjab University. Both B.Sc (Hons) and general (PCM) are available. Admission is based on merit as for which will be better, choose the institute based on your preference.
It all depends on what your goals are. If you want to acquire a degree, then choosing DAV College is fine. The college does not care about attendance and you can easily complete the program even if you miss classes for a month. However, a heavy fine will be charged for the same.
If you want to learn new things and looking for great opportunities in BCA, then look for some other option. The faculty is good but they are not experienced in the area properly and this can be a setback.
Go for BCA only if you are interested in programming and computer applications, otherwise, you will regret this decision.
It depends whether you have done your 10+2 from Chandigarh or outside of UT. If you have done your 10+2 from UT, then you can get admission quite easily with 84%. But if you completed your 10+2 from outside then it will be a little tough to get selected. Since the cutoff is a little high.
You can definitely apply, whether you will get admission or not, it depends on the availability of seats. Many times, students leave their seats for better colleges. This way seats are vacated and made available for students who didn’t get admission during counseling.
The number of seats for the BA program at DAV College has been reduced a few years back. The required cutoff may be higher. I will suggest that you fill the form and wait for the cutoff list.
One of my friends is an alumnus of Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College (DAVC), who studied B.Sc. Here is his experience in brief.
DAVC is an ordinary college, but it is an excellent institute for pursuing an undergraduate degree.
