The French Studies Program provides a curriculum that is diverse in orientation, encompassing study in language, linguistics, literature, and civilization, as well as overlapping areas of knowledge such as philosophy and history.Language and linguistics courses are offered in a variety of areas from the introductory to advanced levels, including normative grammar, composition, translation, terminology, stylistics, phonetics, morphology, lexicology, syntax, and dialectology. Literature courses, offered from the Middle Ages to the present, examine major movements through the contribution of women and men to the literature of France, Canada, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean. Courses in literary analysis and literary theory are also given.
