• UBC’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences announces a new Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPSc) Program.
  • The Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a 4-year program with Honours at the University of British Columbia(UBC).
  • The program is structured as follows:
    • 120 credits for the General Studies, Research, and Practicum options.
    • 132 credits for the Honours options.
  • This new bachelor’s degree will prepare graduates for technical positions in the discovery, development, and production areas of the pharmaceutical, life sciences, biotechnology, and natural products industries.
  • The BPSc does not lead to a pharmacy degree but provides instruction in the study of the sciences that contribute to drug discovery and development, including:
    • Pharmacology
    • Formulations sciences
    • Nanomedicine,
    • Diagnostics
    • Analytical chemistry
  • Students will declare for Honours in the second term of Year 2 or the first term of Year 3. Honours will require a research project, a formal written Honours thesis, and 6 extra credits of classes.
  • Students can prepare research projects without honours in a short report rather than a formal Honours Thesis and then the extra 6 credits of coursework are also not required.
  • Some Graduate Programs at UBC and other Universities allow direct admission to the Ph.D program without enrolling in the MSc if the student holds an honours degree so there is an advantage to pursuing Honours.
  • Approximately 65 students are enrolled in this program per year.
  • There will be placements in Year 4 offered by the Faculty and placements will be on a competitive basis.
  • The University of British Columbia ranked as the 45th best university in the world in the QS World University Rankings.
