The University of Alberta offers its student accommodation services on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending upon the date of application submission done by the eligible students will decide who gets the residence and who doesn’t.

The accommodations at the University of Alberta are provided with complete support and services. The facilities and prices may vary but the necessity is available in each one of them. Most of them are minutes away from the campus. Each housing has its own charm and uniqueness. In order to apply for one of the accommodations at the UAlberta, you will first be required to apply for admission at the University of Alberta, however, getting accepted in the intended program is not essential for accommodation application.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Cost

The University of Alberta offers various housing options in their 12 different residences. Students can choose between dormitory-style units, studio apartments, and bedroom apartments. All of them provide a Voluntary Meal Plan except Lister Residence.

Note: Accommodation cost is merely a part of the cost of living in Canada, you will be required to spend 1,120 to 3,000 CAD (69,157 to 1.85 lakhs INR)  in addition to the accommodation cost.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Application Process

Students for the first-year and upper-year of U of A can apply for the housing options. However, for applying for residence it is not mandatory to be admitted to a program.

All the applicants applying for residence in U of A are required to obtain their CCID (Campus Computing ID) before moving on to the further process.

The University of Alberta is currently inviting students to apply for the Summer and Spring Housing.

How to Apply:

  • Visit the official website of the University of Alberta.
  • Apply for CCID
  • ID activation can take up to 72 hours.
  • Fill the application form by logging into your Residence Account with the given CCID and Password.
  • Fill in the required fields and submit the form.
  • A non-refundable fee of 25 CAD (1,543 INR) will be charged for the form.
  • Selected students will receive an email. Confirm the contract to avail the housing facility of the University of Alberta.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Lister Residence 

Offering 4 Halls with Cohort and Lifestyle floors, Lister Residence provides residence to first-year national and international students. They provide 5-Day or 7-Day meal options with 8 month long contracts to the residents.

Availability – 2 Halls offer a single room with a shared bathroom option and 2 Halls offer a single room with a private bathroom option.

Eligibility – First-year students of UG courses at Ualberta and student leaders are given accommodation in Lister Residence. Also, the delayed and returning second-year students are also welcomed.

Move-in-Dates – Fall and Winter

Features:

  • Resident Assistant Staff (RAs) for individual resident support and after-hour duties.
  • A private bedroom is available to all students. Delayed and Returning students will get private rooms with attached washrooms.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Peter Lougheed Hall 

Located at the East Campus Village community at 11011 Saskatchewan Drive, this hall can hold above 140 residents. The residents will have access to Residence Life Programming which gives service-learning opportunities like skill workshops, guest speakers, networking events, and much more at their doorstep.

Availability – Dorm-style units with one or two fully-furnished bedrooms with shared bathroom.

Eligibility – Student Leaders and first-year students are eligible for residence in this hall.

University of Alberta: Nipisiy House

Nipisiy House offers fully furnished rooms which can be either shared with 4 or 6 room partners. The residence comes with complete support and facilities. Students can also choose the contract length for 4 or 8 months.

Availability – Accommodation is available with 4 and 6 bedrooms apartments. Each furnished bedroom is rented on an individual basis with.

Eligibility – Residence is provided to Upper-year students of the Undergraduate level. They are now also inviting Upper-year residents from the Faculty of Engineering.

University of Alberta: Pinecrest and Tamarack House

Pinecrest House offers a modern-style residence with quality resources. Students are provided with study spaces and lounge areas. The vibrant area of 109th Street is within walking distance from the house. Students can take support from the available transition programs and also get opportunities that will help to achieve academic and personal goals.

Availability – Pinecrest and Tamarack offers apartment style units where the students can choose from either 2 bedroom apartment or 4 bedroom apartment. Each room will contain a single individual only.

Eligibility – The students of Upper-year from UG courses will get accommodation in this house.

University of Alberta Accommodation: HUB

Situated at the center of the campus, HUB residents live at a walking distance of 5 minutes or less from their class. This residence is also close to restaurants, cafes, public transit, and lounges. They also have multiple options in the unit styles and come with a monthly basis contract option for the studio apartments. Apartment prices will vary if they are renovated. Some units are furnished and some are not, so check carefully before choosing.

Availability – There are various options available that students can choose from:

  • Furnished and Unfurnished studio apartments are available with monthly contracts.
  • 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms, and 4 bedrooms apartments are available on contract terms based upon the academic need of the students.
  • Apartments have a common bathroom, living room, and kitchen. Also, each bedroom will reside as a single individual only.
  • 2 and 4 bedroom apartments come with both furnished and unfurnished options.

Eligibility – HUB invites First-year students, students enrolled in graduate courses at UAlberta, and Upper-year Undergraduates for on-campus accommodation services.

University of Alberta: Aspen and Maple House 

Aspen and Maple House is a residence for existing students of the University of Alberta. It is also known as East Campus Village or ECV. It is located centrally which makes it easier for the residents to access support and various services. The Student Association is also nearby. They have monthly as well as long contracts based on academic needs.

Availability – The units available in this house are furnished apartment-style. One can choose between a private 1 bedroom apartment, or a shared 2 and 4 bedroom apartment. Each bedroom will be rented on an individual basis.

Eligibility – Students from the 2nd to 5th year can reside in this house. They should be undergraduates.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Linden House 

Linden House is located in the Eastern area of the campus. The place is within walking distance from the classes. There is a gender-inclusive environment in the house where students can connect with the cohort.

Availability – All the bedrooms in this house are private and they come furnished. Residents have to share the kitchen, bathroom, and living area.

Eligibility – Linden House provides accommodation to the Upper-year UG students. Only the students from the Faculty of Engineering can live here.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Alder House 

The residence is located in the Eastern part of the campus in a beautiful nature-filled neighborhood. Students can reach the campus in a few minutes. The co-ed community in the house helps the residents to foster relationships and also get knowledgeable insights from the Upper-year students.

Availability – Alder House offers fully furnished and modern personal bedrooms to the residents. The residents will share a common bathroom and living space, and a communal kitchen.

Eligibility – The Undergraduate Upper-year students are eligible for Alder House residence.

University of Alberta: International House

The purpose-built community of International House comprises students from Canada and around the globe. The residents participate in I-House Council and also become a part of the Global Education program and contribute their efforts by organizing events for local and international communities. Residents are selected competitively on the basis of the responses to the application questions. It also depends upon the student’s nationality and his/her commitment to creating a welcoming community at I-House.

Availability – The units at this residence are single dormitory-style. All the rooms have a private attached bathroom.

Eligibility – The Upper-year Undergraduate students from Canada and around the world can live at International House. The I-House can take 1/3rd students from Canada and 2/3rd from other countries. The house admits students from 40+ countries and a maximum of 12 students per country.

University of Alberta Accommodation: Graduate Residence

There are four different buildings in Graduate Residence. They are Stonecrop, Rockcress, Speedwell, and Juniper. The residence is close to the campus with a beautiful neighborhood and buildings. The residents can take academic support from the available on-site faculty staff. They also conduct sessions for thesis defense preparation. All the residents and faculties work together to build community spirit.

Availability – Residence is provided to the Graduate students only.

Eligibility – The accommodation is available in furnished studio apartment form and 2 bedroom apartment form. Each bedroom of the apartment will be given to a single individual.

Move-in dates – Throughout the year at annual term lease ending at the end of July.
