Otterbein is building an inclusive community around our unique model of liberal education, which intentionally blends liberal arts and sciences with professional studies through integrative and experiential learning.  Our mission is to prepare our graduates to think deeply and broadly, to engage locally and globally, and to advance their professions and communities.

Otterbein’s history underlies this vision and inspires us to make ongoing progress and improvement in our commitments to diversity and equity.  Otterbein is proud to have admitted women as students and hired them as faculty since our founding in 1847; to have admitted students of color before the American Civil War; and to have welcomed Japanese-American students who had been sent to internment camps during World War II.
