Otterbein?s location in Westerville and its proximity to the Central Ohio business community serve the marketing major well. Representatives from area fast-food organizations, apparel retailers, and digital agencies can easily drive to campus for events. As a consequence, Otterbein?s marketing faculty host an annual young alumni career panel during the Autumn semester and an annual digital analytics career panel in the Spring. At these events, students learn about finding internships and jobs, workplace expectations, and the variety of career paths available to marketing majors.
This proximity also allows for clients to be involved in courses and for guest speakers. For example, retail management involves an area retailer where students develop and present a location analysis as part of a proposed expansion. In sales, sales representatives and other professionals perform role play activities with students as part of the course project. In the marketing analytics course, professionals from digital agencies and departments listen and critique students? presentations.
