The German Program, as part of the Foreign Languages and Literature Bachelor, offers students an education in the premiere program in Alabama and one of the largest of its kind in the Southeast. The Faculty emphasize a foundation grounded in language, literature and culture, as well as interdisciplinary studies with business, film, science and more. Many opportunities exist for students to interact and learn with native speakers on and off campus and with the substantial local German population. Students have the opportunity to live in the German House, the oldest foreign language living and learning community at the University. The faculty is an established international German language testing center in conjunction with the Goethe Institute, and an active student exchange partner in the Federation of German-American Clubs. Students have a variety of choices to study abroad in Germany or Austria.
