The major in music education prepares students to teach music in public elementary and secondary schools. Majors focus on voice or instrumental education. Students study most aspects of music (e.g. individual and ensemble performance) described in the performance major. They also study techniques and concepts of music education. Students must audition before taking advanced courses; they must also be admitted to the College of Education.

The knowledge gained in the Music Education major in the Voice concentration of pedagogy, music history, and a variety of instrument and voice techniques provides a specialized career foundation. Graduates may pursue careers as music teachers in schools or other educational settings, or may offer private lessons in addition to work in any field.
