This degree encompasses science, production, marketing, research and utilization of animals and animal products in agriculture, entertainment and companionship. The Science & Pre-Professional Option includes not only animal science courses but also the additional biology, chemistry and physics courses required of students in pursuit of science-intensive/research-based careers, an advanced degree (MS, PhD) or admission to Veterinary School, Medical School or Dental School. Students choose either an equine-based focus or general focus in their animal science courses.

The knowledge of physical, pathological, and reproductive science prepare graduates in Animal Sciences –Science and Pre-professional in the General Path to work with and study domestic and wild animals in research, protection, treatment, or production capacities. Graduates in the General Path could work as researchers, field scientists, or consultants or in the agricultural or meat production industries. The Science and Pre-professional majors include additional science courses to prepare students for veterinary, medical, or dental school. This major would also be strong preparation for graduate studies in Animal Sciences.
