Political and security challenges within the context of the modern world are emphasized.Leads directly to careers in the Foreign Service, international business, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, international non-profit advocacy organizations, customs and border security agencies, education and many others including advanced study.

The knowledge of oral, writing, and argumentative skills, international law and affairs, international organizations, American foreign policy, conflict resolution, political revolution, regional politics and security, Mexican government and politics, and border security, gained from a major in Government and Public Service with a concentration in International Security, provides graduates a solid career foundation. Graduates are well prepared to work in diplomacy and foreign service, national and international security and protection, immigration and customs enforcement, citizenship and secretarial services, and law enforcement. This major is also excellent preparation for law school or graduate studies in public administration, business administration, or international security.

Classes cover a variety of subjects which develop useful skills like teaching students to speak, write, and argue effectively. Additionally, the Government and Public Service program at UA South teaches students how to research efficiently and effectively, analyze data accurately, think critically about implications, and draw conclusions that will lead to new knowledge as well as practical solutions for the modern world.
