The registered dietitian is the recognized, credentialed?food and nutrition expert?qualified to provide information designed to improve diet and prevent diseases with dietary risk factors as well as to provide medical nutrition therapy to individuals with diseases/medical conditions that require a dietary component in treatment.

A bachelor?s degree in dietetics from an accredited program is the first step in becoming a registered dietitian. Upon graduation, students are eligible to apply for a supervised practice experience (dietetic internship). Nicholls offers anundergraduate/didactic program in dietetics.

The Nicholls undergraduate program is the only accredited program in southeastern Louisiana and the greater New Orleans area. The curriculum prepares students for post-baccalaureate programs and the work force with academic, laboratory and clinical education experiences.
