The Department of Music offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Minor in Music as well as a Musical Theater minor, in conjunction with the Department of Theater and Dance. In preparation for graduate study and multiple careers in music and other fields, students develop musical skills and a comprehensive understanding of a global music heritage that embodies multiple aesthetic ideals.

Our faculty is comprised of active scholars and performing artists who promote critical thinking, lifelong learning, and cultural understanding in their research, teaching, and creative work. Students are engaged in both the intellectual and experiential aspects of music-making, working alongside faculty and visiting artists in multiple contexts, including recitals, classes, ensembles, and festivals. As alumni, they continue to be involved with music in graduate school, professional work, and as active members of their community.

The Department of Music recognizes the capacity, opportunity, and responsibility the performing arts have to further global awareness, champion social justice, and help produce leaders for a diverse world.
