Our program is located within one of the most renowned, eco-friendly, culturally diverse urban centers in the USA. San Francisco is surrounded by a large national park and marine preserve, boasts redwood forests, explodes with entrepreneurial ventures, and is home to rich cultural resources. The San Francisco Bay Area offers a fantastic "living laboratory" for students to learn in, a myriad of job opportunities, and a wonderful place to live.
Since 1946, our department has been helping students move up in their careers, securing professional positions in our field, assisting our diverse communities and advancing the state of knowledge in our profession.
Our graduate program at San Francisco State University (RPT) is a regional collaboration with two other California State University graduate programs in recreation, parks, and tourism; CSU Chico (RECR) and CSU Sacramento (RPTA). The core classes in this program are taught using a hybrid of synchronous online and in-person class sessions.
For a full-time student, the in-person sessions include an extended weekend (three-day) at the beginning of the semester and one day at the end of the semester. For all other synchronous online sessions, you will just need a computer with a high-speed internet connection, video camera, microphone, and speakers. Unlike some other programs, the online sessions are synchronous so that students and faculty can interact in real time.
