- The Department of Mathematics is a national leader in several areas of mathematics, both pure and applied. NC State has active groups in continuous mathematics (control theory, dynamical systems, geometry, partial differential equations, probability, topology), discrete mathematics (algebra, combinatorics, linear programming), and computational mathematics (symbolic computation, modeling, numerical analysis, uncertainty quantification).
- NC State programs benefit from the depth and breadth of over sixty faculty and extend across mathematics and many application areas. Their Ph.D. program has optional computational and interdisciplinary concentrations. Their graduates are recruited for a wide range of positions including academic jobs as well as nonacademic jobs from biotechnology and finance to national security and data science.
