SUNY Potsdam offers an NCATE-recognized undergraduate teacher education programs preparing students for New York State certification in grades 7-12, with many areas offering an extension for certification in grades 5-6 as well.

The Department of Secondary Education prepares students for a career in teaching grades 7 - 12 with the option of a 5-6 extension. This department is responsible for programs leading to the:

• B.A. degrees in English Education, French Education, Mathematics Education, Social Studies Education, Spanish Education and Science Education;
• MST programs in English Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, and Social Studies Education;
• M.S.Ed (This program is not currently accepting new students.)

All programs offered by the Department of Secondary Education have established criteria for knowledge, skills and dispositions that candidates must demonstrate to progress through their programs. It is the responsibility of the candidate to be familiar with the criteria and monitoring procedures that have been established for their programs.
