Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapists engage individuals in music experiences for the purpose of supporting their work toward improved health. Music therapists typically work with persons who have developmental disabilities, psychiatric diagnosis, and/or medical diagnosis. Music therapists find employment in different health care and education settings, for example mental health programs, medical hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, long-term skilled nursing facilities, hospice facilities, special education programs, and assisted-living facilities.
