The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program offers a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science through two routes: 1) a Traditional on-campus Program; and 2) an online Progression Program designed for certified medical/clinical laboratory technicians (CLT/MLT).

Both programs are five semesters in length and are designed to provide students with broad-based knowledge in clinical and basic sciences. The program offers a unique blend of coursework combined with clinical instruction in hospital laboratories.

In February 1956, the Medical Technology program was approved by the Trustee Board for the State Institutions for Higher Learning (IHL). Originally, the program initiated as a certificate program in the clinical laboratory of the University Hospital.

In October 1957, the program received accreditation and the first class graduated in November 1957. The program received its last accreditation in September 2010 for the maximum awarded duration that is allowed.
