at Mills offers course work spanning the discipline?s breadth and diversity. Students receive excellent preparation for graduate study and careers in varied fields, including the health sciences, biotechnology, and environmental conservation.
Your professors will get to know you personally and work with you individually to develop your scientific skills. In small, collaborative classes, you?ll gain a strong foundation in basic biology before moving on to advanced study in diverse biological sciences. Biology majors choose one of three options:
- General biology, offering a range of upper-division electives
- Concentration in ecology, evolution and behavior, providing training at the intersections of ecology, evolutionary biology, and its related disciplines
- Concentration in cell and molecular biology, focusing on biological mechanisms at the cellular and molecular level
Whichever path you choose, you?ll be encouraged to participate in a vibrant, faculty-led research program on campus, using state-of-the-art instrumentation in an atmosphere of support and scientific rigor. You can also gain hands-on experience at field research sites in the San Francisco Bay Area, through internships at off-campus laboratories, or by volunteering at community health centers. All majors complete a senior thesis involving faculty-supervised original research or a comprehensive analysis of literature on a topic of interest.?
