Energy Land Managers are the key component in the successful development of energy resources. Primary job responsibilities include the determination of the ownership of surface and subsurface rights; negotiating contracts and leases; coordination of field exploration activities; serving as a liaison between lease owners and exploration/production companies; and ensuring compliance with government regulations. The knowledge and skillsets developed through the Energy Land Management program enable students to pursue careers in all aspects of the energy land management field, including oil, natural gas, coal and renewable energy sectors. Energy land managers attract high salaries with experienced land professionals earning significantly more.

Energy is experiencing exponential growth as an innovative industry. According to U.S. Energy Administration data, the oil and natural gas industry added more than 162,000 jobs—a 40% increase—over a five-year period. The American Petroleum Institute (API) estimates there were nearly 2.6 million employees on the payrolls of oil and natural gas companies in recent years. This sector is expected to continue to create jobs and spur the economy over the next several decades.
