Because the general classroom should be the first placement option for students with?disabilities, the program emphasizes and provides training to pre-service special education?teachers on how to collaborate with general education professionals. The students will also?learn adaptive techniques and assistive technologies that facilitate the successful integration?of students with diverse learning needs. The special education program prepares students to?work with a diverse range of students and teaches evidence-based strategies that are effective?for all learners.

The program also offers a minor in deaf education (18 credits) and provides extensive?experiences in integrating best practices for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.?Students wishing to receive more information in meeting the needs of students with?disabilities may be interested in our concentration in Special Education (12 credits).
