The sequence requires an introduction to creative writing, coursework that focuses on acquiring the various skills of different forms of writing, and a capstone that generally is a large body of work. Ultimately, the goal of the concentration is to prepare students for life as a writer beyond the classroom.

There are four ways to major in English, with concentrations in Literature, Theatre Arts, Creative Writing, and Journalism and Professional Writing. There is also an online degree in English Studies.
