The Department of Civil Engineering at CSULB offers a program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE), which is designed to give students a broad educational background essential to modern civil engineering practice. The program is built around a core of mathematics, basic and engineering sciences, engineering planning and design, as well as humanities and social sciences. At the junior level, curriculum emphasis is placed on engineering science, laboratory techniques, and computer techniques.
At the senior level, emphasis is placed on engineering planning, design, engineering economics and professionalism. Senior students are given an opportunity for some in-depth study in one of the following areas: structural engineering; environmental engineering; geotechnical engineering; transportation engineering; and water resources engineering. Students get hands-on experience in using equipments and industry software in civil engineering.
