The Department of Biology has been designated by West Virginia State University as a ?Peak of Excellence? and as a ?Program of Excellence? by the West Virginia State University System Board of Directors. The Department has 13 full-time Faculty and over 200 students majoring in Biology. The Biology Department offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with three options:
- Option A: Environmental and Organismal Biology
- Option B: Biotechnology and Genetics
- Option C: Pre-Medical and Biomedical Sciences
*A Minor in Biology is also offered.
Biology Research Efforts
As an 1890 Land-Grant Institution, West Virginia State University has a Research Mission to address the agricultural, environmental, economic and social issues of the people of West Virginia, the region, and the nation. Conducting collaborative applied and basic research in the pursuit of new knowledge provides experiential learning opportunities for students and more relevant curricula.
