The BS degree in Computing Science offers coursework grounded in theory, small class sizes, knowledgeable professors, and a variety of facilities for hands-on learning.

Coursework

The Computing Science major requires a total of 44 hours of Computing Science coursework in addition to general degree requirements. Students are expected to select an emphasis from the options of Computing Science (CS), Information Assurance (IA), or Information Systems (IS). Each concentration requires slightly varied coursework.

All Computing Science majors will take courses on programming and algorithms, computer components, databases systems, data structures, and software engineering.

Other course options include Web Technologies, Visual Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, Game Design, Computer Graphics, and Simulation.

SHSU provides students with a comprehensive computing environment consisting of a large number of labs and a variety of operating systems, network protocols, programming languages, and application packages.
