- MSc in Earth System Science is a 2-year program at the University of Alabama.
- It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
- The department offers two options leading to the Master of Science degree. These are designated:
- Plan I (Thesis)
- Plan II (Non-thesis).
- The MSc in Earth System Science (ESS) program enables students to gain not only an understanding of the physics of the climate system and the environment but also a working hands-on knowledge of how data and information are used to aid decision-makers.
- Students interested in seeking a master’s degree in ESS can specialize in similar topic areas, namely GIS/remote sensing, land surface processes, geospatial analysis, and land-atmosphere interactions.
- To earn a master’s degree in ESS, each student must satisfy all requirements of the School of Graduate School and of the Atmospheric and Earth Science Department.
- Students must formulate an appropriate Program of Study (POS) and completed it before the end of the second semester.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the reviewed literature in the earth system sciences that are relevant to their specific research
