- Mathematical Economic Analysis (MTEC) is a major offered by the Economics Department. The MTEC major provides a specialized 16-course program that includes most of the courses required for the regular (ECON) major, but also requires additional preparation in mathematics and statistics, several relatively technical economics electives, and a capstone course.
- The MTEC major is recommended for students who intend to pursue graduate work in economics or plan to obtain a position in business or government that requires extensive analytical and quantitative skills.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have an official secondary school transcript to get admission.
- Students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
Language Requirments:
- Students whose official language is not English are required to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores.
- Students are required to submit an SAT or ACT score to be considered for admission.
International students who currently or will hold a degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction, do not need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score report.

- Typically degree-seeking international students will come to study on an F-1 student visa and exchange students on a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa. To apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa, the student will need an I-20 or DS-2019 immigration documents, respectively. Occasionally international students may study other visa classifications, depending on their situation, so please check with an OISS advisor if students plan to stay on current visa classification.
- Please keep in mind that all international students regardless of visa type are required to attend the international orientation and to check in with OISS at the start of their program at Rice University.
