The JOURNALISM PROGRAM is part of the School of Communications within the College of Social Sciences.

These include print, broadcast, online and other new media.

Assignments in journalism courses contribute to knowledge and understanding of public, social and cultural institutions and issues. Journalism education stresses the importance of free and responsible news media to the maintenance of an informed citizenry and rights to self-governance in a democracy. The goal is to produce graduates with knowledge that will enable them to make useful contributions in their chosen fields.

Students are encouraged to work for campus media such as Ka Leo O Hawai‘i or KTUH-FM, and to participate in professional internships.
