Many of our graduates teach German Studies at the secondary or university levels. Others work in disciplines such as law, medicine, business, government, and the arts.
Studying the German language has frequently opened doors for alumni: approximately 150 of them live in German-speaking countries, and even more use their knowledge of German language and culture in their occupations. The critical thinking skills you develop through a liberal German Studies education are a solid foundation for any career you may choose.
Majoring or minoring in German Studies broadens your intellectual and cultural horizons; it also affords you many professional opportunities. Our students explore an extraordinarily rich cultural tradition—one that has thoroughly influenced almost every other field of study—and they do so in a very individual and personal setting. The department’s small size encourages close relationships between students and faculty, as do our programs in Berlin.
