The Counseling and Development Program offers a Doctoral Program, Master's Degree Programs in Community Agency Counseling, and School Counseling as well as Post-Master's Licensure Programs for aspiring Licensed Professional Counselors and School Counselors. The Counseling and Development Program is housed within the Graduate School of Education and has faculty from leadership positions in communities and schools.
The Counseling and Development Program is committed to preparing counselors who promote the social, psychological, physical, and spiritual health of individuals, families, communities, and organizations to contribute to the advancement of global well-being. The program strives for national and international excellence in implementing a counseling perspective that provides a foundation in basic counseling skills and focuses on social justice, multiculturalism, international, advocacy, and leadership.

Academic Eligibility:

Students must have completed a baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution.
Students required a 3.0 Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate work.
Students are expected to have completed a degree in engineering, business, computer science, or information technology, with foundational competence in calculus, statistics, and computer programming.

Language Requirments:

Students whose official language is not English are required to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores.

Most students come to the United States on an F-1 visa, but students who are sponsored by the U.S. government, their home government, or another organization may be required to enter the United States on a J-1 Exchange Visitor's Visa. To be issued an immigration document (Form I-20 for F-1 status or Form DS2019 for J-1 status), students must prove they have sufficient financial support to cover their expenses while at Mason.
International students outside the United States may use their immigration documentation to schedule a visa interview with the U.S. embassy or consulate nearest their place of residence and apply for an F-1 or J-1 student visa.
