The MA in psychology is distinguished by its emphasis on basic research and the application of research to solve practical problems in families, industry, government, and health care settings.
Students have to opportunity to access to many employment and continuing education opportunities in research, academia, and consulting within government, public, and private settings.
The psychology MA offers the following concentrations:
- applied developmental psychology
- clinical psychology
- cognitive and behavioral neuroscience
- human factors/applied cognition
- industrial/organizational psychology
Students pursuing a master's degree in psychology must successfully complete 30-32 credits of required coursework. They complete this coursework in one of five concentrations.

Academic Eligibility:

Students must have completed a baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution.
Students required a GPA of 3.25 average on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate work.

Most students come to the United States on an F-1 visa, but students who are sponsored by the U.S. government, their home government, or another organization may be required to enter the United States on a J-1 Exchange Visitor's Visa. To be issued an immigration document (Form I-20 for F-1 status or Form DS2019 for J-1 status), students must prove they have sufficient financial support to cover their expenses while at Mason.
International students outside the United States may use their immigration documentation to schedule a visa interview with the U.S. embassy or consulate nearest their place of residence and apply for an F-1 or J-1 student visa.
