The MA program in History at Emporia State University is designedto transform students of history into historians. The program isintended to both broaden and to sharpen students' study of thesubject. The MA degree may be obtained by following three degreeconcentrations: thesis, non-thesis (exams), and social scienceseducation. Those who successfully complete this program are highlymotivated, interested in the factual and theoretical aspects of thefield, and able to demonstrate through a variety of written and oralforms their commitment to excellence. Working together, thefaculty and students create an atmosphere in which the requisiteskills in critical thinking, research, and writing are taught, explained,nurtured, and evaluated. The program produces graduates who attaina level of performance and expertise that allows them to move on toadditional graduate studies, teaching, archival work, public history,or other activities related to the discipline.
