Current research in the department is in energy and sustainability, nanotechnology and materials, and biotechnology and medicine. Major research centers include:

  • The Composites and Materials Structures Center, one of the largest integrated facilities for polymer and composite research
  • The Composite Vehicle Research Center, a center of excellence for designing and testing composite structures for light-weight, durable and safe vehicles.

Students can choose concentrations in biomedical materials engineering, manufacturing engineering, metallurgical engineering, or polymeric engineering.

Our programs educate students to become innovative engineers on a foundation of mathematics, physics, chemistry, life sciences, and engineering science. Students enjoy access to outstanding laboratories for biochemical engineering, composite materials processing, and characterization of metals, ceramics, and polymers.
