Art History is an interdisciplinary field that encourages students to investigate the works they study in relation the culture, languages, literature, politics and economics of the period in which they were produced. As in other disciplines in the Humanities, students develop their ability to formulate ideas orally and in writing. Beyond this, the study and criticism of images and architectural forms encourages students to refine their powers of observation and analysis, demanding the careful translation of visual experience into verbal and written language. As a consequence of the historical and critical training involved in the study of Art History, majors are well prepared for careers in a broad range of professions, as well as having excellent foundations for work in museums, galleries, and in the various branches of the art market.
