Our courses emphasize ethical and socially responsible communication in both nonprofit and corporate settings. You will gain expertise in campaign planning, message design, brand positioning, multicultural communication, research methods, communication theory, and media law. You will work with community partners to create strategic communication campaigns and will develop a professional portfolio that will help you stand out on the job market.

Recognizing that the media are powerful tools, our Master of Arts program in media and public communication provides a foundation for considering the cultural, economic, political and technological contexts in which societies construct, convey and interpret messages. Students may choose to focus on strategic communication or media and globalization. Each emphasis provides opportunities to design and implement creative campaigns for corporate and nonprofit clients, participate in community-focused learning projects, and develop practical solutions by applying concepts studied in class.

Through internships with local, regional, national and international agencies, graduate students in the media and public communication program have the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world settings. As ethically minded critical thinkers with strong written and verbal communication skills, MA graduates may pursue careers in fields such as public relations, health communication, social and digital media management, government communication, event planning, public affairs, or higher education.
