The General Geology major is for those students interested in geology as a course of study, but who do not intend to become professional geologists. The general geology major provides a strong base for subsequent study of fields such as law, economics, or environmental policy. In combination with courses in the social sciences, the general major is excellent preparation for careers in a wide variety of areas, such as environmental law, or legal, financial, or administrative positions in the mineral resource, energy, and environmental industries.

The Geology-Geography Department promotes independent projects, apprenticeships, and research with OWU professors, or at such places as the Ohio Division of Geological Survey and the Division of Mines and Reclamation.

We offer research opportunities during the academic year and encourage participation in summer research opportunities at OWU and elsewhere. Our research students often present their results at national and regional geological conferences.
