The Department of Journalism and Media Management emphasizes hands-on learning and critical thinking within a multicultural, international context. Our students consistently win regional and national awards and obtain prestigious internships, long-term positions and admission to excellent graduate programs and professional schools in a variety of fields.
The School of Communication’s Electronic Media and Broadcast Journalism majors are designed for students who intend to pursue professional work in the arts, crafts and businesses of electronic mass communication and allied fields.The School's Media Management Bachelor is designed for students interested in the business and management aspects of contemporary media. Students may pursue interests in entrepreneurship, sales, management, technology and research, among other topics. Students are encouraged to network with industry professionals at Media Management Association meetings and expand their knowledge of media business operations on various platforms through local and national internships.
The Broadcast Journalism Bachelor prepares students for professional careers in electronic news gathering, analysis and reporting.
Along with taking journalism courses, our majors receive practical experience by providing news content for the school’s weekly half-hour cable newscast NewsVision and other media outlets. As a result, our students consistently win regional and national awards in scholastic competitions. No prior study of, or experience in, journalism is required to be eligible for the program.
