Through coursework, close interactions with faculty, and individual research projects, students infuse their broad understanding of the field of English studies with their own particular literary interests and concerns. The curriculum offers courses in theory, literary periods and genres, film, new media, creative writing, cultural studies, and rhetoric. The MAE program serves three types of students: those who plan to pursue graduate studies in literature or creative writing at the doctoral level; those aiming to teach in high schools, community colleges, and technical colleges; and those who want to enrich their background in English studies, develop research and writing skills, and continue their intellectual experience beyond the baccalaureate.
The program offers a thesis track, including 24 hours of coursework and 6 hours of thesis research
