Most of these graduate students are teacher practitioners, those who are not are pursuing teacher licensure and endorsement via the post-baccalaureate route while they get their M.A. in science education. A large number of the teachers are at a distance from UNI and receive the required core courses via distance education. Nearly one half of the program can be taken from off campus and additional hours of transfer credit can be applied.

Additionally, the science education faculty offers courses and workshops for professional development for science teachers.
