The program of study for English majors aims to enhance their appreciation and knowledge of literature and the writing process. Through exposure to significant literary works and to the tools for understanding and analyzing what they read and write, students will develop an understanding of the history and background of English-language literatures, including texts in translation central to the discipline. Course work in the major includes offerings in culturally diverse English-language literatures with a foundation in British and American traditions, embracing the writing process and critical analysis.
