The department explores crossplatform media production, computational media and creative ethnography, as well as other timebased media arts practices such as mobile media and performance art. This convergent approach to media spans a variety of media tools including digital photography, audio/video editing and single camera video production, open source programming and digital single lens reflex cameras.
Undergraduate students explore nonfiction multimedia projects, production for small screens, interactive media, and streaming and innovative approaches to web media. They get handson experience while collaborating with fellow students and faculty. At graduation, students are prepared to follow a career path as innovative media producers and engaged, active and critical citizens of the twentyfirst century.
The department offers a BA in Media Production and undergraduate concentrations in documentary media, digital cultures, media production, music and technology and performance media. Students are exposed to a variety of approaches concerning the study of media, information and communication through core CMCI classes, and the undergraduate program is designed to provide basic handson grounding in production theory, aesthetics, techniques and approaches emphasizing innovative media making.
As such, the department provides a rich and varied resource for crosspollination and collaboration. Off campus, there are exciting opportunities to network with Boulder’s creative community, including awardwinning filmmakers and artists.
