The Photonics graduate program is an important component of the educational activities of Lehigh's Center for Photonics and Nanoelectronics. It offers the following advantages:

- Close ties to industry, including Corning and Sycamore Networks.
Faculty members associated with the Center are world-renowned for their research and maintain active projects in nonlinear optical effects, photo-induced phenomena, optical spectroscopy of integrated optical and semiconductor devices, glasses and other optical materials, fiber-based ultrasonics, optical sensing, and optical communications, among others.
