The CHS program at Lehigh University provides students with an understanding of the counselor's role in contemporary American Society as well as fundamental counseling and intervention skills for use in community, work, and family settings.
The CHS program is developmental/contextual in nature and presumes that counselors must work in an increasingly diverse cultural and economic environment. Human services counselors must understand and be prepared to adapt to changing societal conditions and the demands placed upon individuals and families in home, work, educational and healthcare settings. Social justice provides an overarching perspective for the role of the professional counselor.
The faculty seeks to produce counselors who can conceptualize and intervene in competent preventative, developmental, and therapeutic ways to assist a broad cultural cross-section of individuals to improve their understanding, adjustment, and daily functioning across the life span.?
