The mission of Louisiana State University undergraduate Computer Science program is to instill in students, theoretical and applied practical skills needed to solve challenging problems using computer and better prepare them to compete in rapidly evolving and growing Information Technology fields. Graduates of the program use such concepts as abstraction and complexity analysis to solve innovative problems or to orchestrate evolutionary change as applied to the development of software systems and emerging applications. The program provides a strong foundation such that students can build on their skill-sets as the field rapidly evolves.
Program Educational Objectives
- to apply and continuously acquire knowledge, both theoretical and applied, related to core areas of computer science
- to solve diverse and unique problems in software design and development processes
- to work productively as computer professionals (in traditional careers, graduate school, or academia) by:
- demonstrating effective use of oral and written communication
- working competently as a member of a team unit
- adhering to ethical standards in the profession
