The program offered by the Louisiana State University provides its students with hands-on experience with this through the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), or Tiger Fund, which gives them the opportunity to work through such areas of security research, valuation of risky assets, and portfolio management. Since it began in 2005, students have taken the initial $1 million provided by the LSU Foundation and grown it to more than $2.3 million.
