From poetic forms and meters to the finer points of style, the program helps you hone your skills to a sharpness you?ll be proud to share with the world. One of the special strengths of the program is the advice you receive from professors and authors on how to navigate the often-challenging publishing world when your manuscript is complete.
Strengths of the Creative Writing Program
- You receive one-on-one attention from professors who are published authors.
- You get a well-rounded look at the entire publishing process.
- Your work will receive close attention. For example, your senior capstone manuscript is studied and discussed for one-to-two full weeks in class, during which you receive invaluable feedback.
- When you graduate you will have a fully developed manuscript.
- You will have opportunities to meet with published authors who come to the English department as guest speakers. Recently, we have hosted such writers as Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Dunn and Barbara Hurd.
- As a senior-level writing student ,you will take a capstone course in which you work toward creating a polished series of stories or essays or a chapbook of poems.
