Coursework is mainly from the basic sciences with the addition of communications, social sciences, and humanities. Students may enroll in any curriculum in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to complete these courses. Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine was the first public veterinary college established in the United States (1879). The college is a cornerstone of one of the world’s largest concentrations of animal health professionals, with the USDA’s National Animal Disease Center, the National Veterinary Sciences Laboratories, and the Center for Veterinary Biologics.
