• The Master of Science in degree student should have taken introductory statistics, linear algebra and a calculus sequence including multivariable calculus. Promising students lacking an adequate undergraduate background may be admitted to the graduate program but are required to remove undergraduate deficiencies.
  • Students planning graduate studies at the University of New Mexico will find a congenial department in which to work and a faculty of international stature. The research interests of the Statistics group include core areas of Applied and Theoretical Statistics, as well as in Probability. Ph.D. students dissertations may be in any of these broad areas.

    • Conduct research in fundamental mathematics or in application of mathematical techniques to science, management, and other fields. Solve or direct solutions to problems in various fields by mathematical methods. A bachelor's degree is the minimum formal education required. However, many employers also require graduate school. For example, they may require a master's degree, and some require a Ph.D., M.D., or J.D. (law degree).
