A research-based master’s degree focuses studies within a specific area of pharmacy. Students will research, prepare and defend a thesis and publish a manuscript as part of this intensive program at the College of Pharmacy.

The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy offers an advanced master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences. Students work with side-by-side with faculty, many of whom are actively engaged in research in their respective fields. The program is an ideal foundation for students interested in pursuing a career in research science, medicine or biomedical or pharmaceutical professional or those who plan to continue their education with doctoral studies.

The master’s program is a two-part process. The first aspect is completion of three core courses: medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmacology. Once that coursework is finished, students proceed to defining a program of study and then submitting and defending an initial research proposal (IRP).
